Justin Bieber To Appear In PSA As Part Of Plea Bargain After Mall Frenzy Over Teen Star

Often when a celebrity agrees to do a public service announcement, it’s to get themselves out of some legal mess they have gotten themselves into.

But in this case, Justin Bieber is doing a PSA to help get his manager and an executive of his record label off the hook.

This is all as a result of a 2009 incident in Long Island.

Officials say things got out of control at a poorly organized promotional event for the teen pop star at the Roosevelt Field Mall when thousands of fans showed up to see the singer after reading a Tweet posted about the event on Bieber’s Twitter page.

A Def Jam Records official was arrested after police say he refused to help disperse the crowd. Authorities later pressed charges against Bieber’s manager, Scott “Scooter” Braun, even though he wasn’t even at the mall.

In a plea bargain, Bieber’s record label, Island Def Jam Record Music Group, and his management company, Remster 3 LLC, pleaded guilty to a fire violation, according to CBS affiliate WCBS.

Braun’s attorney Ravi Batra, says Bieber will appear in a public service announcement about cyber responsibility.

“What we’ve really done today is make justice sing a very pretty song,” Batra told WCBS. “What better person to reach out to the young people in our society than the number one star in the world?”

Batra said Bieber is looking forward to making the PSA.

“This public service announcement will be a valuable tool for parents, educators, and law enforcement efforts to combat cyber-bullying and sexting, while encouraging young people to use the internet responsibly,” Nassau County district attorney Kathleen Rice said in a statement.
