United Nations, put this afternoon’s agenda on hold: Justin Bieber’s hopes for an enlightening experience in Israel this week were all but diminished when the paparazzi allegedly intruded on the pop star’s pilgrimage. The 17-year-old “Baby” singer, who is currently out on his world tour, was visiting the holy land sites before his scheduled April 14 show in Tel Aviv, Israel. But it was clear after the pop star took to his Twitter, he was not having the trip he’d envisioned.
On April 11, Bieber tweeted that he was “in the holy land and i am grateful for that. I just want to have the same personal experience that others have here.” He had also told followers, “[I] just wish got a little more space and privacy from the paps to enjoy this time with my family.” By the following day, it seemed his tweets had fallen on deaf ears. “You would think paparazzi would have some respect in holy places. All I wanted was the chance to walk where jesus did here in isreal,” Bieber wrote from his page on April 12.
He continued to blast the paps from his Twitter: “They should be ashamed of themselves. Take pictures of me eating but not in a place of prayer, ridiculous….People wait their whole lives for opportunities like this, why would they want to take that experience away from someone.” In what could be interpreted as his final straw, the teen vented, “Staying in the hotel for the rest of the week u happy?”
Still, it wasn’t the only troubling thing the star had to deal with on his venture. Israeli newspaper Haaretz had reported the famously coiffed Canadian had a planned meeting with Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, but that it had fallen through after Bieber had allegedly refused to meet with injured children from the area. Say what you will about the Biebs, but he doesn’t exactly strike us as the type to snub kids that have been through some major trauma. Bieber’s camp also denied that he had turned away the children or Netanyahu and that the meeting had never actually been finalized.
Bieber again took to his Twitter to air his grievances about the whole thing, as he wrote on the Monday, “i want to see this country and all the places ive dreamed of and whether its the paps or being pulled into politics its been frustrating.”
While it’s certainly easy to commiserate with Bieber’s frustration (no one wants a vacation ruined, particularly one of that much significance), lest we need to remind the youngster that worse things have happened in that region of the world. Clearly, the Biebs isn’t exactly ready to become an international Ambassador anytime soon (although, what 17-year-old who makes 3-D concert would be?) Still, it’d be nice for the kid to get to enjoy his time there a little bit.
