Poreotics

MANILA, Philippines — Like the dance crew Jabbawockeez whose members wear masks, the six-member Poreotics also has its own “ID” – dark glasses which are, as in the case of the Jabbawockeez, meant not so much to confuse people as to hide their identities.

Winner of America’s Best Dance Crew last year, Poreotics has six members, all in their early 20s, three of whom are Filipino — namely Chad Mayate, Lawrence Devera and Justin Valles — and the remaining three Vietnamese (Matt Nguyen, Can Nguyen and Charles Nguyen).

They are the front act of the “Justin Bieber My World Tour” concert on May 10 at th SM Mall of Asia (MOA) Concert Grounds, presented by SMART, with official TV Partner TV5, in cooperation with Music Management International (MMI) and AEDI Productions.

It’s not the crew’s first time to work with Bieber. The guys have appeared in one of Bieber’s music videos.

Crowned Team of the Year at the World of Dance Awards in January this year, Poreotics was formed in 2007. The crew has performed in several dance competitions and the third Asian-American group to win first prize as America’s Best Dance Crew fifth season, with the Jabbawockeez as the very first winner.

The crew’s TV appearances include the following:

  • All six members performed their “Disco Challenge” routine on “The Ellen De Generes Show” in April 2010;

  • In June 2010, the crew, minus Lawrence and Matt, hosted the Bridge Juniors Dance Competition in California;

  • On August 26, 2010, the crew was featured in the third episode of Nick Cannon’s short-lived show “Nightlife;”

  • The crew was featured in the first season of “Shake It Up,” the Disney Channel dance sitcom; and

  • Last March, the crew launched a sneak preview called “America’s Best Dance Crew Season 6” commercial on YouTube.
